What’s open for Fishing Opener

A complete list of open area lakes, campgrounds, and road conditions

Mammoth Lakes area: New Shady Rest and Old Shady Rest campgrounds open.

Lakes Basin. Roads, parking areas open, lakes mostly ice-free, no campgrounds open. Twin Lakes campground expected to open for Memorial Day.

McGee Creek. Road is open to trailhead, McGee Creek campground is open.

Rock Creek Lake is mostly ice free, road is open to the lake and to the Rock Creek Resort pack station gate. French, Tuff, and Holiday campgrounds open. No campgrounds open above French campground.

Convict Lakeis mostly ice free, road is open to lake. Convict Lake campground is open.

Sherwin Creek is ready for fishing. Road is open. Sherwin Creek campground is open.

June Lake.All of the June lakes are open and ice free. Open campgrounds include Silver, Oh! Ridge June Lake and Gull Lake campgrounds.

Lee Vining Canyon. Road open to Tioga Pass gate, possibly some lower canyon campgrounds will be open. Call before making plans.

Virginia Lakes Roadis free of snow. It has been closed weekdays for digital cable installation but has been open weekends and is expected to be open this weekend. Mike Bangle from the Bridgeport Ranger District says the ice fishing should be good at Virginia Lakes.

Green Creek Roadis a county maintained dirt road and is clear of snow and mostly mud-free all the way to the trailhead. Green Lake and East Lake are still icy.

Bridgeport Reservoirwill be open to fishing and free of ice.

Twin Lakes are both ice-free. Mono Village opened last Monday, and Twin Lakes Resort will open this weekend.

Five Inyo National Forest Servicecampgrounds are now open, and lakes around 7,500 feet and lower are generally ice free.

East Walker Riveris opening for the season, though catch and release is permitted year round. Remember that this tributary of the Walker River is open to fly fishing only, year round.

West Walker Riveris opening for the season, standard fishing regulations.

Kirman Lake, at the junction of Highways 108 and 395, is opening and ice free. Fly fishing only in the open season.

Topaz Lakehas been open since Jan.1.

Lundy Lake Roadis clear to the Lundy Lake Resort, making Lundy Lake easily accessible.

Saddlebag Lake Roadis still quite snowy and not expected to open at least until S.R. 120 West /Tioga Pass Road is open all the way through.

Road to North Lakeis open, but campgrounds are closed.

Road to Sabrina Lake is open, some delays due to construction, no campgrounds open.

South Lake:road is open, some delays, no campgrounds open.

Lower Bishop Creek:road is open, Forks, Bitterbrush, Four Jeffrey, Big Trees, Intake Two campgrounds open. Bitterbrush campground, possibly a few others in the lower canyon will be open, but will not have water.

Big Pine Canyon: road is open to trailhead and resort. Upper and Lower Sage Flat campgrounds are open. Can hike mostly snow-free to lower lakes.

Whitney Portal:Road is open to the trailhead and parking area, Lone Pine campground open. Whitney campground may be open but was not as of press time.  Please call ahead.

Onion ValleyRoadto Kearsarge Pass trailhead. Road is open, no campgrounds open.

Cottonwood Lakes Road is open to trailhead, no campgrounds open.
