Who is Barry Beck?
Barry Beck has lived on or near the U.S. 395 Corridor his entire life, attending Round Valley Elementary School as a youngster and following a career path leading to Reno, then back to Mono County.
He has been a member of the Mono County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team since 2004. He served on the nine-member SAR Board of Directors since 2005 and has been the training officer for the team since 2006. As of December 2013, he has participated in 173 operations and 226 training events with the team.
He was a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight for 16 years. That organization provides free air transportation for medical care for those who cannot afford it.
He coached Little League in Mono County for eight years, and junior high basketball in Lee Vining for six years. He is the father of twin boys, age 14, and another son, age 16, all of them active in outdoor recreation.
He served on the Bridgeport Valley Regional Planning Advisory Committee (RPAC) for four years, and is on the Bridgeport Public Utility District Board of Directors.
He describes himself as an avid skier, climber, peak-bagger and mountain biker, and has skied Mammoth Mountain since 1973.
