As his first act as the Mayor of Mammoth Lakes one year ago, Matthew Lehman signed a series of documents applying for Chapter 9 municipal bankruptcy on behalf of the battered town.
It was an inauspicious beginning to one of the most difficult political years in the history of the Town of Mammoth Lakes.
As it turned out, though, Mammoth edged to the brink of bankruptcy before backing off the brink, and on this night, passed a balanced budget
for the 2013-14 fiscal year, which begins July 1.
On Wednesday, June 19, Lehman handed over his mayoral duties to Rick Wood, 62, the longtime council member and mayor who says he is entering his final year on the dais.
Wood promised an "aggressive agenda" for the upcoming year, beginning with the first of two reorganizational meetings on Monday, July 8.
