The Mammoth High School Cross Country ski team finished its season with top awards at the California Nevada Interscholastic Ski and Snowboard Federation Championships at Auburn Ski Club on Feb. 18.
The MHS girls’ team (comprised of Amanda Kirkeby, Jody Meads, Kylie LaFramboise and Katherine Janisse) was crowned State Champions and League Champions in the Open Division.
The boys’ team (comprised of Jack Roten, Philip Oxford, Nick Damico and Carson Bold) placed second overall in both the league and in State Championships.
Mammoth’s girl’s team had two podium finishes with Kirkeby in first and Meads in third place.
Rounding out the top 10 results were LaFramboise in sixth and Janisse at ninth places.
The boys’ team finished fifth through eighth places with Roten, Damico, Bold and Oxford, respectively.
In addition to being awarded State Champion, Kirkeby qualified to race in the Junior Nationals to be held in Soldier Hollow, Utah beginning March 3. She will compete against the nation’s best.
“The season was a huge success,” said Coach Alana Levin. “Our team worked hard and their efforts were rewarded at the state championships and in the league results. Each athlete exceeded my expectations and I am honored to work with next year’s team. They are an incredible group of athletes and they are extraordinary kids.”
