First winter storm of the year hits in spring, drops two feet of snow

The first winter storm of the year came in spring—the irony was not lost on drought-weary locals—and dropped about 14 inches of powder at the 8,200 foot level in Mammoth and 18 to 24 inches on Mammoth Mountain, including the crest, according to Mammoth weather forecaster Howard Sheckter.
