Mammoth volleyballers sweep past Desert Christian

The Mammoth Huskies volleyball team raised its record to 7-3 on the season with a victory in four games over Desert Christian on Friday.

After dropping the first game, 25-20, the Huskies reeled off three straight wins, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-15.

Coach Megan Duffey singled out Jenny Clark for kudos. Clark had 10 digs, one kill and "really played a great defensive game," she said.

In addition:

* Aly Vanko: 1 ace, 10 digs, 2 kills, 28 assists

* Sam Knadler: 11 digs, 6 kills

* Arely Bramona-Fierro: 1 ace, 5 digs, 3 assists

Earlier, the Husky JV beat Desert Christian in two straight games, 25-20 and 26-24.

Led by Hailey Sanders' three aces and Bailey Rowan's four kills and two digs, the victory lifted the JV to 4-4 on the year.

"This match was exciting," said Guffey. "It seemed as if the match would go three games, but the girls played one point at a time and played to the end of the match."

Next up for the Huskies are on the road Friday and Saturday against Boron and Mojave.

Mammoth's final home game of the regular season (Senior Night) is Friday, Nov. 2, against Silver Valley, with the JV at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 5.

The last game of the season is Thursday, Nov. 4 at Lone Pine.
