Job Faire, Mammoth Westin, Oct. 3
With winter approaching, the Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce wants to match potential employees with local Mammoth Lakes' employers at the annual Mammoth Lakes Job Fair on Oct. 3 from 1-4 p.m. at the Westin. Currently Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, Black Tie Ski Rentals, The Westin Mammoth Resort, Mammoth Fun Shop, Mammoth Mountain Chalets, High Sierra Best Western, Stellar Brew, Mammoth Community Water District, 1849 Condos, Sierra Unemployment, among others, have all signed up for a booth at the Fair and will be looking for employees.

Horton Lakes trail work in honor of James Wilson, Oct. 3
Inspired by James Wilson's collaborative approach to caring for public lands, continue celebrating National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Oct. 3 with a very special project focused on improving road and trail conditions on the Horton Lakes Road and Trail on the western edge of the Buttermilk. Fulfilling the spirit of cooperation that permeated the 2009 Collaborative Alternative Team, the Eastern Sierra 4WD Club, Inyo National Forest, Friends of the Inyo and others invite everyone to come together and get some real work done for the public lands we all enjoy. Meet at 8 a.m. at the junction of State Route 168 and the Buttermilk Road to carpool to the project site. RSVP appreciated. Jobs for all abilities, tools and gloves provided. Birch Creek hike, Oct. 3
All are invited to join a moderate six-mile roundtrip hike through steep-walled Birch Creek Canyon. A perennial desert creek critical to an endemic population of Black Toads, the 28,785-acre Birch Creek roadless area within the White Mountains is rich in Great Basin riparian habitat and wildlife. This area was just announced as a potential recommended wilderness area under Inyo National Forest plan revisions. The group will meet at S.R 395/168 to carpool in 4WD vehicles at 9 a.m. Those who will attend should plan to return to junction by 4 p.m. Long pants and shirts and study waterproof hiking boots are recommended.
