A blazing sun lights up a local lake. The Labor Day holiday weekend will be bracketed with record-breaking temperatures as a week-long heatwave sets up over the Southern and Central Sierra - and that's us. 

Ten to 20 degrees above normal; records likely broken 

After a slightly cooler recent weekend, a major heat spell will engulf California as the subtropical high rebuilds once again and a heat wave takes over the southern half of the state, according to Mammoth forecaster Howard Sheckter, with the heat likely to remain through Labor Day and into next week.
