Fifty-five possibly inaccurate local Covid-19 lab results last week were retracted by the state lab that processed them but not before several local businesses had to temporarily shut down due to their employees thinking they had positive test results, according to the Mono County Public Health Department.
The inaccurate results were retracted on Aug. 6 when the California Department of Public Health notified Mono County Public Health that 55 Covid-19 test samples taken in Mono County on Aug. 4 by both Mono County Public Health and OptumServe were being retracted following an error in processing at the state-contracted Valencia Branch Laboratory.
These samples were retracted because an accurate result could not be determined.
The Valencia Branch Laboratory worked with both OptumServe and Mono County Public Health to notify each individual about the situation, and urged them to retest.
These individuals were contacted first by email, and then by phone.
"It is important to note that not all of these cases are Mono County residents; visitors to Mono County were among those whose test results were included," Mono County Public Health said in a recent news release. "The California Department of Public Health and Mono County Public Health urge those who fall into this unfortunate situation to retest as soon as possible. If you are concerned that you might be included in this batch of test results and have not been contacted, please call 888-634-1130 for OptumServe results, and 844-352-6567 for Mono County Public Health results."
